This year, it is on May 22, International Biodiversity Day that the Foundation has chosen to announce the winners of the 2021 Terre de Femmes international awards. International Award, Terre de Femmes Grand Prix and mentions, Jacques Rocher tells you everything!
It’s official, four committed heroines are joining Terre de Femmes! They come to enrich with their struggle an ever larger community, ever more solid, ever stronger to act together for the planet.
International Award: The seeds that keep nourishing heritage and biodiversity
This year, the theme of the International Award centered on seeds. It is Cléofécélia, Peruvian peasant woman and leader of her community who wins the prize. This exceptional woman catalogs, preserves and disseminates knowledge about seeds and local seeds to save a whole section of the plant and cultural heritage of the Andes.
Marie Bonneville, nurseryman, artisan-seed producer and promoter of the initiative around the Maison des Semences Paysannes Maralpines (MSPM) also receives special mention from the jury for her action for the protection of local seeds and peasant seeds.
The Terre de Femmes Grand Prix: Belgium in the spotlight
Victoria de Brabandere and Virginie Pierre are both the Terre de Femmes Benelux 2021 laureates. One has set up Collectmet an action that fights against food waste by recovering unsold fruits and vegetables to redistribute them to people in need and facilitate thus access to healthy food for all. The other contributes to saving the environment and protecting bees in Guinea by initiating women from local communities to beekeeping as part of its association Cueilleuses de miel.
Bravo to Cléofécélia for her exceptional action in favor of the preservation of seeds as well as to Marie for her special mention. Congratulations to Victoria and Virginie for their actions which convinced the jury of the Grand Prix Terre de Femmes!
