The Yves Rocher Foundation !
Mangrove reforesting, fishing revival and enhancedcoastalproductivity
In 2010, the Yves Rocher Foundation signed up to help restore mangroves in south-eastern Thailand’s Trang province, which was devastated by the 2004 tsunami. Mangrove forests are one of the planet’s most productive ecosystems. They act as reservoirs of nutrients, providing shelter for a host of different animals species and shielding entire regions from storms.
Implemented in partnership with Chulalongkorn University, the project’s aim was to support the Ban Tong Tasae residents who rely on mangroves for food and raw materials. Local inhabitants were invited to get involved by planting red mangroves and other species to help restore balance to the local flora and encourage the return of endemic crabs and fish.
