Growing in the shade

Family farming is a central part of this country’s culture. Lots of small-scale farmers are supported so that they can live off their crops, slowly changing things at their own pace.

For many families in rural and densely populated areas, trees are a core component of the agricultural system. They have a number of different uses, from wood production, fruit and fodder to maintaining fertile soil and biodiversity. On a local level, the Fondation is working with the Inter Aide association and farmers to preserve their land and enable them to live off their crops. Reforesting is hugely positive because trees are key to soil replenishment.

In Malawi, the primary aim is to improve access to wood resources.
