UNCCD – United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification

Desertification, along with climate change and the loss of biodiversity, were identified as major challenges to sustainable development during the 1992 Rio Earth Summit. Established in 1994, UNCCD is the sole legally binding international agreement linking the future of the environment and sustainable development to the way in which land is protected and preserved. The Convention primarily addresses the arid, semi-arid and dry areas where some of the most vulnerable ecosystems and people can be found. As tree-planting is a way to combat desertification, the Yves Rocher Foundation collaborates with UNCCD in the framework of the Plant for the Planet programme.

The Conservatoire Botanique National de Brest is a public joint association. It is a member of the Fédération des Conservatoires Botaniques Nationaux (Federation of National Botanical Conservatories).
