Plant for the planet. The time is now!
The Green Hands* association is currently planting the first few trees for Yves Rocher in the Tamil Nadu region of India, in one of the most deforested areas of the country.
Yves Rocher has committed to financing the planting of 900,000 trees over 3 years in this region.
Jacques Rocher and several Yves Rocher employees went on site to officially launch the operation and to meet the locals who had committed themselves to the Green Hands project.
Out of this ecological iniative grew a human project. In fact, the people of Tamil Nadu are planting directly onto their parcels of land the trees that are most useful to them. They are planting fruit trees to meet an emergency food shortage and trees that reclaim the soil as a medium-term initiative. They are also planting construction wood to meet long-term goals.
*Green Hands is an association that specializes in environmental emergencies in India and, in particular, in the Tamil Nadu region. In 2006, Green Hands set a world record in tree planting.
- 2007/2008: 900,000 trees planted in India with Green Hands.
- Beginning of 2008: 20,000 trees planted in Brazil with Sebastiao Salgado and the Instituto Terra.
- 2009: at least 80,000 trees planted, location to be determined.
“When we plant trees, we plant the seeds of peace and seeds of hope.”
